This event will not only help members of the fifth district, but can help those in the Dallas community that feel that they could be at risk for having sleep apnea or are resistant to the CPAP mask

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 03, 2012

The fifth district of the American Legion and Commander Jeffrey Perkins are teaming up with the Pro Player Health Alliance to spread sleep apnea awareness, during an upcoming event, 'Tackle Sleep Apnea'. The event will take place at the North Texas Automotive Museum on Nov. 1, at 7p.m and is free to the public. The museum is located at 677 W. Campbell Rd. Sleep Group Solutions is pleased to provide free home sleep testing to select attendees.

A dominant draw to these events are the participation of former NFL legends. Erik Dickerson, Isiah Robertson, Dave Krieg, Derek Kennard and Roy Green will speak on their need to spread awareness, in efforts to save lives. “I want to spread awareness about how serious sleep apnea can be,” Krieg said. “The death of Reggie White had a major impact on me and now I feel the need to do my part to let the public know about this silent killer and how important getting treatment is.”

This event is the fifth stop for the campaign. The goal of the campaign is to successfully tackle every region. As part of the event, a discussion will be held with Dr. Harry L. Sugg, D.D.S., on the symptoms, health dangers and how dentists are now part of the treatment plan, for those who suffer from this potentially deadly condition.

There are currently a select number of dentists who offer oral appliance therapy (OAT) in efforts to treat those who suffer from moderate to severe sleep apnea. In addition dentists can treat patients’ that are also resistant to the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Mask. Dentists offer OAT through the creation of a custom made mouth piece. “The mouth piece is like a retainer and works by pushing the jaw forward in order to open up the airway, so that you can breathe,” Krieg said.

The upcoming event currently has 125 members from the Fifth District of the American Legion that will be in attendance. In addition, Gergen will be meeting with the district during an upcoming meeting in an effort to spread awareness to those who will not be able to attend the upcoming event. Fifth district of the American Legion Commander Jeffrey Perkins mentions, “I am excited that we are able to take part in such a great event. This event will not only help members of the fifth district, but can help those in the Dallas community that feel that they could be at risk for having sleep apnea or are resistant to the CPAP mask.” President of the Pro-Players Health Alliance (PPHA), David Gergen says, “We are very excited to have the American Legion involved in this event. The legion joined us in Tacoma and the event was the most successful to date. I feel we will have the same amount of success for this event.”
