October 5, 2012 – The National Society of Leadership and Success today announced it is committing $250,000 to the 2012-2013 academic year scholarship and grant program. This initiative is to provide members with financial assistance for higher education. The Society’s scholarship program will help awarded members to continue their education, pursue their dreams, and find innovative ways to support their communities.
With over 225,979 members at over 300 college chapters nationwide, the Society offers life-changing speakers and serves as a powerful force of good in the greater community by encouraging and organizing action to better the world.
Society founder Gary Tuerack stated, “We are dream supporters – we build leaders, support people in achieving their dreams, and better the world in the process. We get people to ask the all-important question 'What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?' and then help them to achieve those goals.” Mr. Tuerack continues, “With the National Society of Leadership and Success Scholarship and Grant program we are reinforcing our commitment to build leaders who make a better world. Our vision for this program is to support the next generation of leaders and propel the future careers of those who embody the Society’s values. Offering this scholarship and grant program contributes to our value of dream supporters as we look forward to awarding these scholarships and grants throughout the academic year."
List of scholarship and grants:
Emerging Leader Scholarship: Awarded to up to 20 members per year, the Emerging Leader Scholarship is intended to recognize and reward demonstrated leadership ability and accomplishment. Scholarships are awarded twice per year, with funds distributed directly to the academic intuition to apply against tuition and fees.
Financial Aid: Materials Grant: This grant is need-based and is available to 12 Society members each semester. The purpose of this grant is to support members with financial needs in purchasing materials needed to pursue higher education.
Digital Community Action Award: Awarded to 24 members per year, this award encourages positive community interactions and sharing of collective knowledge through digital media.
Dream Support Grant: This grant competition is conducted four times annually. The purpose of this grant is to support individuals in achieving their dreams. Applicants are encouraged to be creative: the primary guiding requirement for this funding is that the request will have a significant impact on achieving your dreams.
Better World Grant: This grant competition is conducted four times annually. Applicants submit a proposal for a project, business or other endeavor that furthers the Society’s mission “we build leaders who make a better world” and specify the requested grant amount.
Stephen Covey Tribute Grant: One of the most recognized and distinguished luminaries in the fields of personal success and leadership, Stephen Covey published The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in 1989, and sold more than 20 million copies before his death. A speaker in the Society’s leadership series, the Society developed this tribute to provide a grant to an applicant who demonstrates accomplishments as a leader and is a Society member.
Financial Aid: Tuition Scholarship: This grant is available to two Society members each semester and is need-based.
Global Leader Scholarship: The world faced by today’s leaders is more globally focused, requiring a diversity of experience and understanding of disparate cultures. The Society recognizes the importance of experiential learning, and offers a scholarship to two members per year that are pursuing academic studies abroad relevant to global leadership.
The National Distinguished Member Certificate: This award is presented to members that go above and beyond the steps for membership, and is distributed by the advisor at the chapter induction ceremony.
Student President of the Year: The Student President plays a pivotal role at each chapter, and may dedicate hundreds of hours to helping others discover and achieve their dreams. Each year the Society recognizes one among this distinguish group that has stood above the rest in dedication to achieving our mission.
Executive Board Member of the Year: Executive Board Members dedicate their time and energy to helping others discover and achieve their dreams. Each year the Society recognizes one among this group that has stood above the rest in dedication to achieving our mission.
Advisor of the Year: The Chapter Advisor guides and mentors the Executive Board and the local chapter members, while acting as a liaison with the campus administration. Each year the Society recognizes an Advisor among this group that has stood above the rest in dedication to achieving our mission.
Chapter of the Year: Each chapter has a significant impact upon the campus community, and each year the Society recognizes one chapter for the impact it has had upon both its members and the community.
