Online retailers The Sat Nav Company are expecting a major boost for Golf over the next year as a direct result of Europe’s record final-day comeback to win the Ryder Cup against the United States.

Europe produced a produced a brilliant display on the final day of the competition to beat the US in front of a shell-shocked crowd at Medinah, Chicago. The US needed just four-and-a-half points from a possible twelve, but the Europeans secured eight and a half to clinch a 14½-13½ win.

The win matches the record recovery of Ben Crenshaw’s US team in Boston in 1999 and is the greatest comeback from a European side in Ryder Cup history.

It was also a fitting tribute to the late Seve Ballesteros, who paired up with Europe’s captain Jose Maria Olazabal until his death in 2011. Ballesteros is recognised as reinvigorating the competition and remained a big factor in the event with Olazabal stating, “Seve will always be present with this team... I think the boys understood that believing was the most important thing. And I think they did that.”

The final surge over the weekend made it the most exciting and emotional tournament ever for golf addicts and causal watchers alike, who were glued to their screens well into Sunday night.

The Sat Nav Company believes Europe’s triumph over the weekend has reignited a passion for Golf among young players of the sport.

Two years ago the Ryder Cup created a surge of golfing tourists to Wales with more than 200,000 golf visitors travelling to play at Celtic Manor in 2011, an increase of 9%. The money made from golfing tourists has increased by 21% to nearly £42 million in 2011.

The Sat Nav Company, who specialise in selling handheld range finders and golf GPS products believe the end of the Ryder Cup is just the beginning of another chapter for the future of British golf, with the next chapter focusing on building that legacy.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Stephen Harvey stated, “The European success of the Ryder Cup this weekend is likely to inspire thousands of young fans and aspiring players to revisit their local golf course and get back into the swing of things.

The Ryder Cup in 2010 sparked a surge in golfing interest and boosted sales for range finders and course GPS devices as amateur players looked to improve their game and continuing the legacy of a fantastic sport.
