San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2012

The San Francisco Pen Show will hold its annual selling and trading convention of new and vintage fountain pens, rollerballs, and ballpoints at the Marriott San Mateo-San Francisco Airport, San Mateo, California, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 5, 6, and 7, 2012. The public is invited to view, buy, or trade with the largest collection of writing instruments in the San Francisco bay area, a collection that no single dealer could afford to carry in its inventory.

“This is the largest collection of writing instruments the San Francisco Bay Area has seen in years,” said promoter Bert Oser, owner of Bertram’s Inkwell in Kensington, Maryland. “We hold regional shows all over the United States but San Francisco has gone without one for a number of years. We thought it was time to offer the Bay Area an opportunity to fulfill its pent up demand. Besides, it will give the public a chance to see how we communicated before the iPhone!”

In addition to vintage pens no longer in production, the San Francisco Pen Show will have representatives from around the globe showing off pens from current pen manufacturers, including but not limited to Aurora, Caran d’Ache, Cartier, Conklin, Cross, David Oscarson, Delta, Dunhill, S.T. Dupont, Graf von Faber-Castell, Faber Castell, Fisher, Lamy, Marlen, Montblanc, Montegrappa, Monteverde, Namiki, Omas, Parker, Pelikan, Retro 51, Sheaffer, Stipula, Visconti, Waterford, Waterman, and Yard-O-Led. In addition, the show will feature vintage pens and pencils from the last 100 years—the golden era—made by manufactures with names long forgotten.

Several nationally known pen repair and nib restoration specialists, John Mottishaw, Mike Matsuyama, and Pendleton Brown, will be on site during the show.

Nationally recognized calligrapher Deborah Basel is coming from Baltimore, Maryland to offer a two-hour hands-on calligraphy class on Saturday and Sunday, October 6th and 7th respectively. The class cost $25, which includes a Sheaffer view-point calligraphy pen you get to keep at the end of the class as well as free admission to the show for the day of your class.

Dealers coming to the San Francisco Pen Show will include the owner of the oldest pen store in the United States, dealers from as far as the Washington D.C. area, and local dealer Roger Cromwell, who is located nearby in Castro Valley, CA.

The cost is $10 for one-day attendance, $15 for two days, and $45 for a three-day Trader’ Pass. Children under 13 years of age are free. The Pen Show hours are Friday 11AM–6 p.m., Saturday 10 AM–5 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Parking is Free.

The Marriott San Mateo-San Francisco Airport, San Mateo, California is located at 1770 South Amphlett Blvd, San Mateo, CA 94402, telephone 650-653-6000.
