Today the U.S. Department of State reports modern slavery claims 20.9 million victims at any given time. The commercial sex trade is currently the largest growing criminal enterprise around the world. It is estimated, by the US Department of Justice, that 14,500 to 17,500 of those trafficked into the United States each year are from other countries. In addition to those who come from abroad, there are approximately 100,000 children within our borders at risk of being commercially sexually exploited.

It is because of these staggering statistics and the individual stories of survivors and those who weren't lucky enough to survive that on Friday October 12th, Collaborate to Impact in partnership with Bittersweet Zine will be hosting a Bittersweet Benefit to raise awareness and support for this important cause.

Collaborate to Impact is an organization whose mission is to bring together and network other nonprofit organizations working on issues of poverty, justice, health and education. They do this by hosting Happy Hours for Humanity which are unique social events meant to bring nonprofits and donors together to support social change in their community.

Collaborate to Impact has partnered with Bittersweet Zine, an artistic, documentary-style zine that profiles organizations doing inspiring and much-needed work in response to the critical social issues of our day. The October issue of Bittersweet Zine has profiled the important anti-sex trafficking work of Polaris Project, Restoration Ministries, Courtney's House and FAIR Girls. The upcoming issue also highlights the work of area artists who are using their artwork to make a difference in our community and world.

Join us on Friday October 12th from 7:30pm-10:pm at Chez Billy, 3815 Georgia Ave. NW. Washington, DC. 20011.

Donations of $15 will provide entry into the event and one drink coupon. Guests will enjoy a complimentary issue of the zine, raffle prizes, a spoken word short film premier, DJ, and art for sale. Representatives from all the profiled organizations will be present.

Please join us as we come together to end sex trafficking.
