Prenatal yoga is a shift from your usual yoga practice because your intention expands to include your baby's health as well as your own.
Edmonton, Alberta (PRWEB) October 09, 2012
Whole Family Health announced today the launch of its new yoga programs. The clinic now offers yoga programs that specialize in fertility, prenatal and postnatal health. The yoga classes are designed to work in conjunction with acupuncture treatments to help women conceive, prepare for birth, and recover after delivery.
Fertility yoga promotes conception by reducing stress through breathing techniques and meditation. It also increases blood flow to the reproductive organs and can help relieve nerve compression and symptoms of spinal problems that may contribute to fertility problems. "Fertility yoga is something we invented here at the clinic to go along with couples' traditional Chinese medical treatments," says Cecil Horwitz, owner of Whole Family Health. "It just adds another dimension to the holistic approach we take to women's health."
Following conception, prenatal yoga strengthens the body and increases comfort at every stage of pregnancy. Gentle yoga helps the body stretch and lengthen to accommodate a growing baby and relieves tension in the shoulders, lower back, and hips. "Prenatal yoga is a shift from your usual yoga practice because your intention expands to include your baby's health as well as your own," says Horwitz. "It's a great way to connect with your baby and enhance your experience of the changes happening in your body."
Once the baby is born, postnatal yoga can help you recover both physically and emotionally as your body continues to change. Benefits include strengthening the back, abdominal muscles, and pelvic floor; reducing swelling; promoting circulation and lactation; decreasing the chance of postpartum depression; and lowering high blood pressure. "On top of all the physical benefits, postnatal yoga is a great way to get out and meet other new moms," says Horwitz. The clinic offers two postnatal programs: Mom and Baby Yoga and Postnatal Recovery Yoga.
The Whole Family Health yoga classes combine the traditions of yin and yang yoga - yin to release tension, restore the body, and still the mind, and yang to lengthen, strengthen, and create flexibility in muscles.
The clinic offers both small group classes that allow for plenty of one-on-one attention and individual private sessions. Private sessions are developed by the yoga instructor in consultation with both the patient's acupuncturist and massage therapist to complement the work they are doing.
