Facebook VP of Corporate Development Vaughn Smith discussed with TechCrunch how the company and refocused on mobile. Samuel Junghenn founder of Digital Marketing Agency Think Big Online says that Facebook is the latest company to adopt the mobile first policy like Google.
“Google came out just a few months ago and said for the last few years their company has adopted a mobile first policy. Essentially this means they develop everything to work on a mobile phone first and then adapt it for PC based web browsing.” Said Mr Junghenn
“Facebook has now come out and said they are doing the same thing, this should be taken as two clear indications from internet powerhouses on where the internet is going.” Said Mr Junghenn.
In the interview with TechCrunch Mr Smith said:
“Since the start of this year, if you turned up at a product review and showed anything other than mobile at the start or for the bulk of the presentation, you’d be asked to go back and do it again.”
As recently as last year, 80 percent of a product review would talk about the desktop website. We pivoted our thinking to how can we create the right mobile experience first, and the desktop can catch up later.” Said Mr Smith
