Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) November 10, 2012
BPI Sports donated $50,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Foundation to show their support for breast cancer research. October marked National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and BPI Sports used their Facebook page to help them in raising money for breast cancer. While some people don pink clothing or accessories as a way to spread awareness for the issue, BPI had other ways of showing their support. This year, BPI ran a campaign to donate $50,000 to the Susan G. Komen for a Cure® Foundation if they reached a total of 50,000 "Likes" on their Facebook page by November 4th, 2012.
Although BPI did not hit their target of 50K likes, they were able to bring attention to the cause through their fans' passion and desire to stay fit and healthy - which is their ultimate goal. Thousands of fans "Liked" and "Shared" the posts in efforts to spread the word and raise awareness. To continue to help the fight, BPI still donated $50,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
"Social media is a very powerful outlet to reach thousands of people from all walks of life, and we felt this was the perfect venue to reach out to our fans and raise awareness during Breast Cancer Month," stated Diana Ress, Director of Marketing for BPI Sports. "We want to say a huge thank you to all of our fans who helped us raise awareness during October. We appreciate the support of our loyal fans for helping us in this important cause. It is an honor to be able to donate to the Susan G. Komen for a Cure® Foundation in efforts to one day put an end to cancer."
While breast cancer awareness month has come to an end, unfortunately the disease is still affecting millions of people across the world. BPI Sports will continue its ongoing commitment to raise awareness. Susan G. Komen, the largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research and community outreach programs, is committed to ending breast cancer forever by empowering people and energizing science to find the cures and ensuring quality care for all people, everywhere.
In estimations by breastcancer.org, more than 230,480 women were expected to be diagnosed in 2011. During the same year, approximately 39,520 women were expected to die from the disease. Thousands of people have lost loved ones to breast cancer. With its frequency today, one in eight women will develop the disease. Help fight back against breast cancer!
