Facebook announced another test this week where they are testing giving free Wi-Fi access to users who check in to businesses. Samuel Junghenn founder of Digital Marketing Agency Think Big Online says this is another major step forward for Facebook.

“As a business owner you certainly cant fault Facebook for it’s innovation and new ideas, no-one has tested this out yet and it seems like a really viable idea. It will be interesting to see how the test works out with the businesses involved and if Facebook rolls this out.” Said Mr Junghenn.

The test was first discovered by Tom Waddington and covered on AllFacebook, after the test was discovered Facebook confirmed it with the following comment:

“We are currently running a small test with a few local businesses of a Wi-Fi router that is designed to offer a quick and easy way to access free Wi-Fi after checking in on Facebook. When you access Facebook Wi-Fi by checking in, you are directed to your local business’ Facebook page.”

According to AllFacebook the businesses involved in the test can track the amount of likes that are generated from their Facebook Wi-Fi access. If you don’t want to like the businesses page to get Wi-Fi access you can also just get passcodes directly from the business.

“This is another unique test being run by Facebook and one that really showcases their drive to be around long term.” Said Mr Junghenn.
