On November 15, 2012, Yumi Media releases a statement in response to a Boston.com article by Laura Franzini regarding Brandeis University partaking in PETA’s annual Most Vegan-Friendly College contest.

According to the Boston.com article, “in the seven years since peta2--PETA's youth division--started its annual Most Vegan-Friendly College contest, the number of college students who identify themselves as vegetarian has risen by 50 percent, and the number of vegan students has more than doubled.” The article reports that schools like Brandeis University are offering vegan options such as vegan chili dogs, tofu scampi, and ginger sesame noodles with tofu.

According to peta2 Manager of College Campaigns and Outreach Ryan Huling, “The best way that students can fortify their health for a tough year of hitting the books, protect the environment, and save animals' lives at the same time is to go vegan.” The article states that vegetarians are more protected against heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and even cancer. According to the article Brandeis is now competing in the first round against 31 other colleges and the vegan revolution is in full swing.

Yumi Media stresses the importance of spreading the vegetarian idea through college campuses. Eileen McGovern, representative of Yumi Media stated, “Having these vegan-friendly contests are a good way to spread the word of the benefits of eating vegetarian, or going meatless. Even if some students love eating meat but want to enjoy the health benefits of vegetarian, there are meat alternatives such as those offered by Quorn that taste like meat, but with a healthier twist.”
