Dr. Gary McClain has launched a new page on Facebook, Just Got Diagnosed. A specialist in the emotional and spiritual impact of chronic and catastrophic illnesses, Gary McClain, PhD, developed JustGotDiagnosed.com to address a serious need he saw going unfulfilled; namely, a way for newly-diagnosed patients to receive help in coping with their emotional reactions to their diagnosis. Dr. McClain also blogs on the patient social networking site, AllianceHealth.com.
In announcing Just Got Diagnosed on Facebook, Dr. McClain described the role of this page vis a vis his website. “Facebook provides me with an opportunity to reach newly-diagnosed patients and their caregivers who might not find me on the Web.
“I am amazed at how often visitors to my site.” McClain continued. They were asking if I had a Facebook page, and were suggesting that not only would they visit a Just Got Diagnosed Facebook page, but they would have expected to have found me there in the first place. Since I don’t have forums on my site, this is also a way to create dialogs with them.”
McClain indicated that, at least initially, he will post his blog entries on the Just Got Diagnosed Facebook page. “My primary goal is to introduce myself and reach patients and caregivers with information and inspiration that I hope they will find helpful. That’s really what my Website is all about.”
