On November 26, Colle Farmers Market Community releases a statement in reaction to a recent Los Angeles Time article about what pediatricians are saying about the health benefits of organic food.

The Los Angeles Times article said that many pediatricians are pointing out what the actual benefits are of choosing an organic diet. “Organic diets… expose consumers to fewer pesticides, and organic farming has been shown to have less impact on the environment than conventional operations,” the article stated. It also said that studies are still not conclusive as to whether or not organic foods actually have more vitamins and minerals than non-organic products.

The article went on to point out the dramatic increase in organic food consumption over recent years. “Drs. Joel Forman and Janet Silverstein, along with the academy’s nutrition committee and Council on Environmental Health, set out the arguments, noting that the organic foods market has grown from $3.5 billion in 1996 to $28.6 billion in 2010, according to the Organic Trade Assn.”

Colle, an online farmers market community, states that they believe organic foods are a better option, no matter what age you are. Because organic food that is grown with fewer chemicals and additives, it is a healthier choice. Once Colle officially gets off the ground, they will be proud to provide people with an easier way to access organic farmers markets. They also hope that this increased interest in organic food will mean the same for organic farmers markets, and they hope the trend continues.

Colle is an E-Commerce enabled farmers market community that is passionate about sustainable consumption and responsible conservation. The Colle movement is dedicated to connecting natural product vendors, organic farmers and all consumers who live an organic and natural lifestyle with the ultimate goal of creating more sustainable farming and consumerism.
