The authors investigated mortars based on CEM I and CEM III/B cements. The presence of bicarbonate ions significantly reduced the expansion of the CEM I mortars while there was little expansion of the CEM III/B mortars. The section also features an abstract on the impact of hydroxypropylguars (HPG) on the early age hydration of Portland cement. The authors observed a weak influence of HPG on the germination of hydrates. In contrast, HPG induced a significant decrease in the hydrates growth rate. They conclude that HPG adsorption on hydrated phases via polar interactions is responsible for the delay.

The biodiesel could be produced over homogeneous, heterogeneous, or enzymatic catalysts. The results of this study show that the acid catalyst SO42-/ZnO have potential to be used as catalyst for biodiesel production through heterogeneous transesterification of vegetable oils. Another article covers plant-wide utility disturbance management in the process industry. The authors focus on identifying disturbances in utilities and estimating the economical effects of such disturbances and present a general method for reducing the loss of revenue due to utility disturbances, the utility disturbance management (UDM) method. They applied this method to an industrial case at Perstorp, Sweden.
