Today on #GivingTuesday, I am using my voice to give back.

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) November 27, 2012

Girl Up Champion Victoria Justice will take part today in the first-ever #GivingTuesday to raise awareness of Girl Up, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation that works to empower girls worldwide.

Victoria Justice, a singer and actress, visited Guatemala with Girl Up and was inspired to write a song about her experience. Fans can unlock the new single, “Girl Up,” and its music video by donating to Justice’s her GirlRaiser challenge. Her goal is to raise $20,000 to help the campaign.

“Today on #GivingTuesday, I am using my voice to give back,” Justice said. “By donating to my GirlRaiser, you will be able to support the incredible work being done by Girl Up. I hope that my fans and friends join me this holiday season to make a difference for girls around the world.”

Another partner supporting Girl Up is small business Altruette charms. Altruette created a special bracelet charm for Girl Up and will donate $2 to the campaign for every charm sold today.

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a first-of-its-kind effort to harness the collective power of charities, families, businesses, and individuals to transform how people participate in the giving season. Kicking off the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the causes they care about, and help create a better world.

“#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends, and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”
