Global Technologist and Former Director at National Science Foundation Joins Novitas Group

Novitas Group, LLC today announced that Dr. Donald "Chip" Cox, global technologist and a noted network scientist has joined the company as a Managing Director. Chip's will focus on Novitas Group’s global technology and incubation offerings.

Cox holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a Master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D . in economics and computer science from the University of Western Australia. He was actively involved in the development of the open standards web environment, including presenting the first approach to multi-casting HTTP at the third World Wide Web Consortium meeting at Paris in 1996. This approach later became RSS. He then led development of image handling for the next generation Internet (Internet2). In 2000, Chip was appointed unanimously as a program director for Advanced Network Infrastructure and Research at the National Science Foundation. At the NSF, he was the program director for Strategic Technologies for the Internet, and The High Performance International Network Program.

As the COO of AMPATH- the organization that manages the network connection between 18 countries in Latin America and the U.S, he developed and operated a next-generation network spanning eleven countries and over 8,000 miles. He continues to consult with Western Hemisphere government agencies to improve the reliability, availability, and security of wide-ranging communications infrastructure. Chip founded two companies that leverage his technology background; Highground (a physical security technology venture) was founded in 2005 with operations for both U.S. government agencies and foreign governments. HighGround utilizes the best of research-lab developed technologies applied to ongoing security and stability projects worldwide. The second venture remains closely held and leverages networks technology for the next generation of electronically ballasted switches. He is also chairman of the LAUREN Foundation, and is on the boards of technology incubator BlackGrid and new media company Blue Tile Media.
