After a hard fought and spirited election, Americans can appreciate a dose of humor as we head into the holiday season. Inspired by our imperfectly wonderful political system, US political symbols and the qualities of bipartisanship, sculptor Brad Oldham created the Bipartisan Collection, individually hand cast fine-art bronze sculptures of elephants and donkeys.
The Bipartisan Collection is comprised of the Bipartisan Presidential Series and the Bipartisan Senate Series. Each series features six bronze sculptures – three donkeys and three elephants – displayed in three positions called Uno, Slide, and Giggles. Balancing on one foot, sliding into victory, and belly laughing on their backs, each of these sculptures is a reflection of the balance, compromise and humor that is often needed for people to come together and find solutions for the greater good.
“Bipartisanship often requires a balanced approach, ability to compromise, and a sense of humor. We may be a country with red elephants and blue donkeys; but we’re also a country that puts America first,” says Oldham.
“While we teeter on the fiscal cliff, bureaucrats in Washington are picking winners and losers. It's time that we call on our leaders to work together. These sculptures are a small, but symbolic gesture that our government needs to govern in the best interest of the nation." -- Leslie Sorrell, spokesperson for the Bipartisan Collection.
Available for purchase now, priced from $1,600 to $3,500, with delivery on Inauguration Day 2013, these fine art sculptures are being produced in a small run of 44 for the Presidential Series and 100 for the Senate Series; the production run a reference to the number of US presidents and senators. The Bipartisan Presidential Series pairs an antiqued nickel-plated bronze donkey and elephant sculpture, both presented in a custom wood and leather trunk with the buyer’s name engraved onto the top and accompanied by the Bipartisan Collection leather-bound book as well as the Bipartisan Collection cufflinks sculpted by Oldham.
The Bipartisan Senate Series also pairs a donkey and elephant bronze sculpture, each featuring their respective Party Patina, a Pure Sculpture exclusive technique. The Senate Series sculptures are packaged individually in a custom birch box. Once this limited production run is complete, all sculpture molds will be broken to ensure the sculptures will never be created again; the sculptures themselves will last thousands of years as a testament to the benefits of bipartisanship.
