Hot on the heels of Google’s recent release of Google+ for education, Hapara today announced it has added Google+ support to its instructional platform for Google Apps, Teacher Dashboard. In addition to giving educators tools to efficiently and effectively impact student outcomes using Docs, Sites, Blogger and Picassa for teaching and learning, Teacher Dashboard will now offer safety features for Google+.
The new Teacher Dashboard tools will allow teachers and administrators to see any public student activity, including posts and comments, and any profile elements that students have made public in Google+, at a glance. “Teacher Dashboard, will give educators greater visibility into student use of Google+... and that’s important for student safety,” said Founder Jan Zawadzki.
This announcement reinforces Hapara’s commitment to helping educators effectively use cloud-based, open tools to impact learning, and extends Hapara’s coverage of Google Apps for Education. The new Google+ features are in keeping with the transparency Hapara brings to student use of Docs, Sites, Blogger and Gmail.
Many teachers using Google Apps for Education around the world, coupled with the Teacher Dashboard management platform, report increased student motivation and improved writing outcomes. At Pt. England School, teachers use Blogger to motivate students by giving them an authentic public audience for their writing. Principal at Pt. England, Russell Burt, explains the role Teacher Dashboard plays in effective and safe teaching and learning with Google Apps, saying “Teacher Dashboard eliminates the confusion and massive time drain involved in managing online classroom content.”
“We are thrilled to now be able to help schools bring social media tools safely into their classrooms as well,” Zawadzki said. “As Google builds out its suite of offerings we will continue to extend our tools, supporting schools and teachers who are transforming their classrooms into collaborative, digitally-rich environments for learning”
Teacher Dashboard, complete with the new Google+ features, is available directly from Hapara at Hapara.com. Children under the age of 13 are not currently permitted to use Google+.
