I think of college sometimes like a basketball game. Everyone can use an assist.
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
Angela Ray of Angela Ray International will launch a Facebook Fan Contest on Friday, November 30, 2012. The contest will allow fans to submit their biggest lessons learned and success tips for college. The top five entries will be featured in Ray’s new book, Rehearsing for the Leading Role™: Secrets to Successful Leadership for College Students. One entry will be randomly selected to win a $50.00 Visa Gift Card.
Ray is in the final stages of completing the book and realized there are a lot college graduates who may not be writing a book, but they have valuable insight to offer the next generation. “I learned a lot of things by trial and error while I was a student. I received great advice along the way, but still there were a few things I just figured out as I moved through my journey,” Ray said.
Strong academic performance is important, but what students accomplish in clubs, organizations and community service is equally vital for both the work force and graduate school. According to U.S. News and World Report, extracurricular activities tell a lot. “They demonstrate your interests, passions, and personality, which helps the committees get to know you beyond your professional goals. Extracurriculars also indicate how you might contribute to the diversity and vitality of a class and alumni network,” according to the article.
While she was a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ray served as a volunteer for Minority Student Recruitment. She also worked as a peer advisor for three years, checking in with a group of assigned students at least once a week. Each summer, Ray worked with the university’s signature program, Project Uplift, which provided a weekend college visit for African American and Native American students. It’s no coincidence that today, she dedicates much of her time to speaking to high school and college students about success.
Ray has also included interviews in the book with college graduates with a range of majors and professions. To participate in the contest, submit tips on the company Facebook Fan Page. The drawing for the $50.00 Visa Gift Card will be held on December 24, 2012 when the contest ends.
“I think of college sometimes like a basketball game. Everyone can use an assist,” Ray added. “Some days a rebound can keep a student in the game. I believe this book can offer students that assist. Ultimately, it takes a team to win big.”
