'With this kind of support,' says publisher Bruce Bortz, 'we really had no choice but to release a paperback.'
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
On Friday, November 30, Baltimore, MD-based Bancroft Press will release the first ever paperback edition of The Atomic Weight of Secrets or The Arrival of the Mysterious Men in Black.
The novel, the first book of author Eden Unger Bowditch’s Young Inventors Guild series, was originally released in hardcover on March 15, 2011.
“This is the most exciting project I have ever done. It feels bigger than me!” says Bowditch. “Though I love the feel of the hardcover, it will be easier for some kids to get this paperback version.”
Since its original release, The Atomic Weight of Secrets, set in Dayton, OH, has earned itself a groundswell of praise and support from all manner of readers. School Library Journal declared it a book that would “resonate with readers who feel overlooked by busy parents,” and the Tri State YA Review Group named it a 2011 Book of Note.
Bloggers around the world have responded glowingly, with Lisa the Nerd calling it the best digital galley of 2011 and Brizmus Blogs Books proclaiming, “I LOVED this book!”
The praise has come from fellow authors as well. Tanita Davis, author of Mare’s War, which earned a starred review from Kirkus, called it “a rich and complex, nuanced middle grade mystery novel.” P. B. Kerr, author of the popular Children of the Lamp series, declared it “simply brilliant.”
Bowditch has had opportunity to share her book with young readers around the globe, from her home in Cairo, Egypt and all across the United States. A group of readers and fans in Hong Kong made their own book trailer. The emphasis on science has made it a natural for the classroom, and new readers are discovering The Atomic Weight of Secrets every day.
“Getting to tour and visit classrooms and speak with brilliant kids all over the world has been such a thrill,” says Bowditch. “I feel like I meet kids who jump right out of the pages of the Young Inventors Guild books.”
“At 23 pages, our praise sheet for this book is longer than for any other book we’ve published during the past two decades,” says publisher Bruce Bortz. “With this kind of support, we really had no choice but to release a paperback.”
But the new release is not only about the demand. It’s also a prologue to the publication of the second novel in the trilogy. The Ravens of Solemano or The Order of the Mysterious Men in Black is scheduled for a launch in fall 2013.
“Book Two is such an adventure!” says Bowditch. “And I’m very happy that some people will be discovering the first book for the first—or maybe second or third—time in these months before The Ravens of Solemano is out.”
The Atomic Weight of Secrets or The Arrival of the Mysterious Men in Black is available in paperback at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and wherever books are sold.
Bancroft Press has been a leading independent general interest publisher for the past 20 years.
