Over 70 Lake Ridge Academy Upper School students participated in the Lorain County Model United Nations Conference sponsored by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs on Wednesday November 28th and Thursday November 29th. The event took place at the Spitzer Conference Center on the campus of Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio.
During four 90-minute sessions, students acted as delegates of the United Nations, presenting their country's viewpoint on pressing world issues such as "Human Rights in the Syrian Arab Republic," "Securing the Development and Codification of International Law" and "Iran's Nuclear Program - Should decisive action be taken?"
Lake Ridge Academy won 15 of the 30 awards given at the Model United Nations competition. This included four students who earned the Gavel Award, the highest individual award at MUN. Individual gavels were given to outstanding delegates in each of 8 committees.
