Dog Ear Publishing releases “My Little Mimi: Memories of My Dog, My Mother, and Me” by Sherry Davis.

This runt of the litter, whose story is told in this new memoir, hooked Sherry Davis from the very start.

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. (PRWEB) December 12, 2012

It wasn’t until she was 45 that the author finally got a dog – a teacup poodle weighing less than 5 pounds. This runt of the litter, whose story is told in this new memoir, hooked Sherry Davis from the very start. The unconditional love Mimi Jeanne shared with Sherry for 13 years mirrored the love Sherry had for her mother, allowing her to grieve both the loss of Mimi to kidney failure and – at long last – the death of her own mother.

“My Little Mimi: Memories of My Dog, My Mother, and Me” was born out of the feelings of loss and grief Sherry experienced when Mimi died. Exploring those feelings allowed Sherry to better understand the loving relationship she had with her mother and delve deeper into her emotions about losing her mother Eva to cancer 20 years earlier. Tender memories of Mimi’s many hats, starting with a tiny blue helmet from a Dodgers game, to even earlier memories of first bringing home the tiny pup.

Sherry lovingly describes Mimi’s love of parties and piano music and work as a service dog of sorts to her blind doggie companion. Sherry also shares poignant memories of growing up with a single mother who worried about her only daughter. Candid photos of Mimi and Eva grace each new chapter in this book of tender reminiscences.

This is the first book for author Sherry Davis, who works as an educational docent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art teaching Japanese Sumi-e paintings to students. Davis, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, has a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. She worked for Simplicity Pattern Company and ran her own lingerie shop before beginning a new career teaching art to children. She is working on a children’s story about a little girl and a poodle and plans to illustrate it herself.
