On December 8, Rapid Recovery Solution, a collection agency, offers a response to on an article published by The Daily Targum which discusses the collection of student debt at Rutgers University.
According to the article, “[Rutgers University Student Assembly] introduced a resolution for a ‘Student Debt Teach-In’ on Dec. 3 at the Douglass Campus Center, which will be a session that educates students on student debt, Sallie Mae and the rising cost of education.” The article explains that this has come in response to the Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) discovering in early October that Reuter’s uses a collection company to help collect student debt. The article states that Marios Athanasiou, co-author of the resolution opposing the contract, believes that “the University should handle student debt collection instead of an outside corporation.”
The Daily Targum article continues by quoting David Bedford, co-author of the resolution and a member of the Rutgers Student Union, who explained, “People aren’t made aware of options like payment plans.”
John Monderine, the CEO for collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution, offers a response to the article. “Although it would be great if people just paid their bills, unfortunately they don’t. Do all you can to collect in house but using a collection agency is a necessary evil,” explains Monderine.
