Specialist in Treating Gynecologic Cancers Joins Abington Memorial Hospital’s Hanjani Institute for Gynecologic Oncology

Gynecologic Oncologist Elizabeth R. Burton, M.D., recently joined the staff of Abington Memorial Hospital’s Hanjani Institute for Gynecologic Oncology.

Burton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College where she made the dean’s list for four consecutive years. After completing her medical degree, Burton served in the Peace Corps as teacher in West Africa. Following her service, Burton attended Albany Medical College in Albany, NY where she co-founded a chapter of Physicians for Human Rights prior to earning her medical degree.

Burton completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California at Irvine where she was awarded the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology Award. She completed a gynecological oncology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

Burton is an active member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. She has presented and published several manuscripts on treatments of gynecologic cancers and serves as an investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group clinical trials at Abington Memorial Hospital.
