Single Carrot Theatre announces plans to move to 2600 N. Howard Street, currently Mr. James’ Tire Shop in the coming year. Seawall Development will reopen the tire shop as a freshly rehabilitated historic building, focused on non-profits, performance, and dining. Single Carrot Theatre, previously housed at Load of Fun on North Avenue, is the first tenant of the building.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Single Carrot, which is known for bringing excellent theatre and education programs to Baltimore,” says Seawall partner Evan Morville. “Single Carrot Theatre has worked alongside us and selected this building as their new home. We can’t wait to see what they do with the space and for the neighborhood.”
The architectural plans for 2600 N. Howard Street will include 6,500ft2 of space for Single Carrot’s operations, a 5,000ft2 restaurant , 2,600ft2 of non-profit office space and onsite parking. "We're excited to work with Seawall Development, an organization that shares our vision of a strong and vibrant Baltimore”, says Single Carrot Theatre board president Rich Espey, "2600 North Howard Street represents the culmination of a dream for Single Carrot: to provide intimate, intense theatrical experiences in a brand new facility designed specifically with our audience in mind.”
The Single Carrot space will include a theater to seat about 99 people, a rehearsal hall, scene shop, sizeable lobby, along with ample storage and office space for the company. Says Single Carrot Theatre Artistic Director Nathan Cooper of the move, “This opportunity will allow Single Carrot Theatre to expand our programming, to serve a wider audience, and to strengthen the stability of the organization overall.”
Single Carrot plans to debut its inaugural performance in its new home in early 2014, its seventh season. “This is a once in a lifetime move for Single Carrot Theatre,” says managing director Elliott Rauh. The added space, amenities, and offices are all important steps for the company’s growth and we’re delighted that Seawall is so invested in Single Carrot and our mission. We look forward to being at 2600 N. Howard Street and part of the Remington neighborhood!"
