The Project for Natural Health Choices Inc. issues recommendations to maintain positive mental health as a result of new research findings indicating that people who are happy and satisfied with their lives are less likely to die early.
The study, conducted at Emory University and published in the American Journal of Public Health, used a sample of 3,000 adults in US of varying gender, ages, races, socioeconomic status and weight. The participants were assessed for mental health illnesses like depression, panic disorder and anxiety.
The research had been going underway for a period of 10 years and has concluded that if a person is happy despite various factors and variables, the chance for mortality is lowered by 60% no matter what the cause of death may be.
According to Lead Researcher, Corey Keyes: "You need both of these qualities for complete happiness.”
The ratio of mortality for adults who were not emotionally and socially satisfied was 1.62 compared to those who experienced flourishing mental health. A small percentage of 6.3 of the total population passed away while the study was still ongoing.

•Develop supportive relationships, such as family connections, long-term friendships
