San Francisco Based Mi Casa Tequila Honored as "Tequila Distillery of the Year" at the New York International Spirits Competition

Family produced 'Mi Casa Tequila' bestowed highest honors in New York's most relevant Spirits Competition. Family plans to expand consumer availability internationally in 2013.

It has been a busy year indeed in the world of agave based spirits as the Spirits Industry & consumers alike are embracing tequila like no other time in history. This month the 3rd Annual New York International Spirits Competition honored Mi Casa Tequila as ‘Tequila Distillery of the Year.’ Mi Casa Tequila co-founder Arthur Eli Rodriguez was in New York to receive the honors on behalf of his family.

In an interview with the NYISC, Mr. Rodriguez said, "My family and I are extremely honored to be recognized by the New York International Spirits Competition because the winners are chosen blindly with consideration to their retail pricing. The title 'Tequila Distillery of the Year' means that our portfolio is not only extremely enjoyable, it's also a great value to consumers."

The NYISC held a ‘Winner’s Circle Event’ for Industry insiders and spirits buyers, in the heart of Manhattan over looking Rockefeller Center. In addition to pouring samples of Mi Casa Tequila, Mr. Rodriguez also poured a delectable ‘Harvest Punch’ made with his family's award winning Mi Casa Reposado.

“The punch was crafted by Ricky Paiva, one of San Francisco's best bartenders and a great friend of mine. People really enjoy it so I figured I'd share it with New York. The recipe is on our website and if you're in San Francisco you can find it on the cocktail menu at Local Edition. If you're there on a Tuesday or Friday night, ask for Ricky."

When asked about the future of Mi Casa Tequila, Mr. Rodriguez said ”San Francisco has been very good to us and shows us a lot of support. We have a small broker in Brooklyn and just recently started working with a great distributor in California, so we’re hoping to expand and be more accessible to consumers in 2013. We produce a sizable amount of tequila and are exploring markets outside the United States as well."

According to their website the Rodriguez family started growing Blue Agave twelve years ago on their ranch in the highlands of Michoacán, one of five Mexican states where you can legally grow agave and call your product tequila. The Rodriguez family handles everything from farming their single estate Blue Agave to packaging, importing and selling their award winning distillate.
