Tie-a-Tie.net, an online educational resource for men’s fashion, has recently published a piece on the “ultimate billionaire’s wardrobe.” The piece highlights a variety of ultra-exclusive clothing items, with the least expensive item (a diamond-studded dress shirt) selling for $45,000.
“With all the talk of economic disparity in the world, we wanted to highlight a few designer pieces that would make even the 1% feel poor,” says Tie-a-Tie.net founder Hendrik Pohl. “This is obviously all in good fun, but on a more serious note it can be worthwhile to pay attention to just how costly certain things in life can be. Certainly, no one needs a suit that boasts over 450 diamonds, although it’s fair to say that there is a market for such items.”
The blog post highlights 7 high-end designer pieces, ranging in price from $45,000 to $4.2 million. Among the included items are an umbrella constructed from crocodile skin, A. Testoni dress shoes made from alligator skin and a $900,000 men’s suit designed that took over 600 hours for designer Stuart Hughes to create. With all pieces combined, the entire wardrobe weighs in at $6.6 million.
“It’s difficult to imagine that a single ensemble could cost nearly $7 million,” says Pohl. “To put this into perspective, this is enough money to feed 90,000 African children who regularly go without food for an entire year according to the United Nations World Food Programme. While our intentions with putting this piece together were certainly lighthearted in nature, it just goes to show that the distribution of wealth in today’s world is rather imbalanced.”
In addition to publishing blog posts on men’s fashion, Tie-a-Tie.net offers readers a wealth of tips and information about how to properly wear neckties, including detailed descriptions of knot-tying techniques. A section entitled “Dress Codes & Ties” explains in detail how one should dress for black tie events, white tie events and job interviews.
“The majority of our readers already have a strong interest in fashion before they even find the site,” says Pohl. “It’s important to note, though, that we cater to men of all walks of life, including those who don’t know how to approach wearing neckties and formal fashion accessories. Our tutorials are geared specifically towards people who fall into the latter category, and are designed to take the confusion out of formal black tie attire.”
