The blood and gore of horror fiction rarely goes down well with cornflakes and coffee, but authors Sean Platt and David Wright hope to change all that with their latest title, the Serial Box.
A collection designed to draw readers in to the many dark and post-apocalyptic worlds Platt and Wright have created, The Serial Box is the perfect introduction to the duo of authors, who are known as "Kings of the Serial".
Opening the Serial Box, readers will find the first episode of five serial fiction titles launched by Platt and Wright over the past 15 months.
Serials featured in the collection include Platt and Wright's groundbreaking title Yesterday's Gone, a series with over 300 five star reviews on Amazon. Pilot episodes are also included for WhiteSpace, ForNevermore, Available Darkness and Z 2134.
Sean Platt said he and David Wright had launched the Serial Box to appeal to two different types of reader.
"The Serial Box is designed for two groups of people," Platt said. "First, it's for anyone who's enjoyed one of our titles and wants a taster of everything else we've written so they can see what they'd like to read next. Second, it's for new readers who want to try out serial fiction, but are unsure where to start."
David Wright added that the collection offers "immense value for money."
"Bought as singles, our pilot episodes cost $2.99 each," Wright said. "With five pilot episodes in the serial box, plus the Dark Crossings short story Monsters, we've included nearly $18 worth of fiction. We're offering all that for the price of a single episode - $2.99. Now anyone who's curious about serial fiction has no excuse for failing to give it a taste test."
Platt and Wright began their fiction writing career in 2011 self-publishing their serials through the indie imprint Collective Inkwell. Their titles were such a hit with readers that towards the end of 2012 the pair were signed by 47North, Amazon's horror and sci-fi publishing arm.
Serials written as part of their Amazon deal include Z 2134 and Monstrous.
"We're thrilled Amazon allowed us to feature the first episode of Z 2134 in the Serial Box," Platt said. "It means our readers get to try out pretty much everything we've written, other than Monstrous, for which new episodes are still being launched."
The Serial Box is available for download from Amazon.com, priced $2.99.
