RTKL, the global architecture and urban design practice, has opened an office in São Paulo, Brazil. The region continues to show signs of economic growth and a market ripe for RTKL’s services and commitment to architecture that makes the world a better, more sustainable place.
“South America has always been a fertile market for RTKL, and our legacy in the region dates back to the 1980’s,” says RTKL President and CEO Lance K. Josal FAIA. “Recently we’ve seen a new wave of demand for our master planning and architectural design services, and this fits well with our broader global strategy. To serve our clients better, we’ve established a presence in Sao Paolo and will be looking to build on this over time.”
Following the recent grand opening of the Sonae Sierra/RTKL-designed Uberlândia Shopping in Brazil, RTKL has also completed the initial design phase for the retail, dining and entertainment area within Cidade da Copa, a master planned community containing a 2014 World Cup stadium in Recife, Brazil. RTKL’s design integrates the natural features of the site into a celebration of Brazilian culture, with a series of indoor and outdoor spaces designed to celebrate traditional Brazilian dances.
“If you look at the best sports venues in the world, they aren’t just stadiums; they promote economic and neighborhood expansion by fostering a sense of community and civic purpose. RTKL’s design has done that for Cidade da Copa, providing a sense of place and a commercial center for the entire district,” said Jeffrey J. Gunning, RTKL Senior Vice President.
RTKL’s new São Paulo office will be managed by Camila Simas, a Sao Paulo native who has spent the past several years working in RTKL’s London office.
The new office is located at:
Rua Funchal, 418
