Q.bel Foods LLC, makers of Q.bel™ better-for-you chocolate wafers, has contributed its share of product to good causes since its launch in 2009. But nothing the company has done before has even come close to the major donation it made this month in the still storm-distressed New York City area.
“This area was devastated,” said Bahram Shirazi, Q.bel’s founder and president. “So many people lost their homes, lost everything they had. I can’t imagine what it must be like.”
Hurricane Sandy left large swathes of coastal New York and New Jersey without power for extended periods, and upended the lives of thousands of residents.
“We can’t afford to hand over lots of cash, but we can afford to share our delicious treats,” asserted Shirazi. “And I know how a little chocolate treat can brighten your day.”
The company donated over 22,000 of its better-for-you candy bars, and over 15,000 boxes of its QThins line of wafer cookies to City Harvest, which delivers 42 million pounds of food to 600 community food programs. “It's not dinner on the table, but it does provide wholesome whole grain and chocolate treats, and none of it requires any refrigeration or preparation. It can liven up a lot of holidays,” added Shirazi.
The Q.bel impulse product line was launched in January 2009, with an initial national rollout by Whole Foods Markets. Since that time, the product has been selected by many leading retailers. For more information about Q.bel, visit http://www.QbelFoods.com.
