“There have been many incidents of classroom violence in the past which clearly indicate that we need to take a serious look at how weapons can be made available sparingly,” he said. "We need to teach our kids how to handle their own negative emotions."

Washington D.C (PRWEB) December 19, 2012

The global Art of Living family announced today that it deeply regrets the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and prays for the families of the victims. May God give them the strength to come out of this darkest moment of life.

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has encouraged everybody to come together and work towards creating a violence-free and stress-free world. Unless each member of the society learns to manage stress and emotional illness, the society cannot be completely safe. In particular, he indicated that the sense of respect for life & adopting non-violence as a way of life must be established in young minds.

“There have been many incidents of classroom violence in the past which clearly indicate that we need to take a serious look at how weapons can be made available sparingly,” he said. “It is startling to know that there are more weapon shops in the United States than grocery shops. While the cause of aggression in young minds could be broken families, hostile environment or the lack of much needed emotional support, an education in non-violence is a necessity today. We need to teach our kids how to handle their own negative emotions. Stress cannot be avoided, but they need to know how to manage it effectively. Today, kids feel very much at ease playing violent games and are not aware of the consequences of such acts in real life. We need to make a shift in these young minds so that they respect life and learn to handle negative emotions.”

The Art of Living Foundation offers holistic programs that combine the science of breath to release stress and manage negative emotions with wisdom. Programs for youth such as Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) fosters human values of compassion, love, peace, friendliness and develops resilient, responsible and inspired student leaders who model a sense of connectedness, an attitude of non-violence and an ethic of social service. Sudarshan Kriya is a unique breathing practice taught in this program that reduces anxiety, stress and depression and increases well being.
