Since the questions we ask determine the quest we take, the New Year's Quest game was designed to transform a New Year's celebration into a fun yet meaningful event that helps people make 2013 their best year yet.

Every year people look for unique and fun ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve and ring in the new year. Award-winning author I. J. Weinstock thinks he has an answer. “I want to help people celebrate New Year’s Eve in a fun, but also meaningful way,” he explains. “In a way that helps them make 2013 their best year yet. So as a holiday gift I’m giving away my New Year’s Quest game because it will transform a party, dinner, or romantic date into a memorable and meaningful occasion.”
Like his award-winning book, Grief Quest, which uses questions to help people heal their grief; and his most recent book, The LoveSpell Secret, which is based on “answering life’s most important question,” New Year’s Quest is also based on the power of questions. "There's a reason the words 'question' and 'quest' are related," Weinstock says, "because the questions you ask determine the quest you take.”
The New Year’s Quest game harnesses the powerful sense of ‘new beginnings’ everyone feels around New Years with nearly fifty questions specifically designed to help people take stock of the year that’s passed and begin to envision the year to come.
Here’s an example of the nearly 50 thought-provoking questions the New Year’s Quest game asks:
- What happened last year that made a significant change in your life?
- What happened to you last year that was a complete surprise?
- How did you help somebody last year?
- What situation in your life would you most like to change in the new year?
- How do you intend to create more laughter in the year to come?
“There’s magic in blessing your past and declaring your future,” Weinstock says. “That’s one of the reasons going on a New Year’s Quest helps you create your best year yet.”
The New Year’s Quest game, according to Weinstock, will transform any New Year’s celebration into a memorable occasion. "Download it,” he suggests. “Print out the questions. Cut, fold and place them in a basket or bowl. Then have everyone at your holiday gathering answer a question. It’s a sure-fire recipe for a special time."
Couples might prefer going on a romantic New Year’s Quest together “to increase their in-to-me-see, better known as intimacy.” By taking stock of the year that’s passed and declaring their intentions for the future, Weinstock believes a couple can “help each other make the coming year and their relationship more fulfilling than ever.”
One couple decided to spend last New Year’s Eve together playing the New Year’s Quest game over a bottle of champagne. “It was such a delightful and insightful way to end the year and bring in the New Year with one another,” the couple wrote. “Toward the end of the game the question came up—‘How do you intend to bring more joy into your life in the coming year?’ As soon as I read the question, I got the message to not take my self and my life so seriously, and by doing so I would feel and bring more joy into my life. I’m so grateful to have had this experience. Thank you for your New Year Blessing.”
According to Weinstock, New Year’s Quest can also be used as a private meditation. “Answering these soul-searching questions can be a powerful personal ritual to mark the turning point of the new year.”
One of the more unusual ways New Year’s Quest has been played comes from a Long Island couple who went for a hike in the woods last New Year’s Day and took turns answering questions. It turned out to be a wonderful New Year Ritual during which they remembered forgotten accomplishments of the past year and clarifyied their intentions for the year ahead.
After each answer, they stuck the question to a tree so someone else might find it and play the game. Days later, they returned and found most of their questions had been taken. Or moved to other trees. Apparently, whoever found them decided to pass the New Year’s Quest on, too.
