Since the inaugural race in 2006, the City of Santa Rosa has hosted seven different stages of the ATOC including both starts and finishes. In 2012 Santa Rosa welcomes the entire cycling community as hosts of the overall start of the 2012 race along with the stage one finish. Not only is the city a top cycling destination, Santa Rosa is a top visitor destination with over 2,000 hotel rooms ranging from four star hotels to affordable motels, a bed & breakfast and vacation rentals. Levi Leipheimer, Omega Pharma- QuickStep rider and three-time champion of America's premier race (2007, 2008, 2009), commented, "I've stayed at roughly 2,000 hotels in my 20 years as an amateur and professional cyclist so I can attest that the hotels in California are among the most accommodating and comfortable. I've stayed at hotels ranging from ultra-luxurious to uniquely themed during the Amgen Tour of California. They are part of why the race is an attraction to the world's best riders."
In Santa Rosa, the Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa was awarded as one of the staff’s top ten. The other top ten hotels receiving the most first place votes hail from all over the state, representing an eclectic mix of beach and ski resorts, retro and progressive styles, urban and rural settings, and unique getaway locations. In addition 5 other Santa Rosa hotels received number one all-time favorite’s votes and were recognized in the honorable mention category. These hotels include; Hotel LaRose, Foundaingrove Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Sonoma and the Hyatt Vineyard Creek. All six hotels are in Santa Rosa and have hosted various members of the tour including riders and their teams, course officials, marshals, television crews and members of the media.
