“My name is Joseph of Nazareth. I am a carpenter. Let me tell you what Christmas was really like and what my boy, Jesus, meant to me.” So begins Ted Erekson’s new novel “My Boy Jesus: Joseph’s Story” (published by Trafford Publishing), where he explores the love of a stepfather and how the relationship of a son and father can transcend time and circumstances.

“We all need to ponder on all the individuals in the life of Jesus to better understand Him,” Erekson says, “and to gain an understanding of the family that God the Father chose for His Only Begotten Son.”

An excerpt from “My Boy Jesus”:

“He had settled down and looked up at me. I felt His warmth and worried that my work worn hands would offend His tender skin . . . until His tiny fingers wrapped around the edge of my hand and He fell asleep. I handed Him to Mary and she held Him close to her breast. I was His father and He would be my boy! My joy was extreme. Jesus had come into my life like He would come into no others.”

“All people can relate to one aspect or another of the tender experience between and father and a son. The illustrations are warm, tender, and full of emotion and very personal,” says Erekson.

Inspired by his own family life – the love of his wife and the presence of their three children – Erekson wanted to explore what it must have been like for Joseph. “I have always thought about Joseph and the strength and courage and love he had to have to be the stepfather of Jesus Christ.”
