We were truly honored to have U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta participate in a demonstration of the cutting-edge capabilities of the Dismounted Soldier Training System, said Intelligent Decisions President and CEO Harry Martin.

Intelligent Decisions (ID), Inc., a recognized leader in federal IT solutions, announced today that the company’s Dismounted Soldier Training System (DSTS) was demoed by the U.S. Army’s Maneuver Center of Excellence for the U.S. Secretary of Defense on May 4 at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. DSTS is a first-ever, fully immersive virtual simulation training system that enables U.S. soldiers, leaders and units to train in a virtual environment to increase the quality of instruction and combat preparedness, while at the same time reducing traditional training expenses associated with large-scale facilities.

As part of the demonstration at Fort Benning’s Clarke Simulation Center, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta wore a DSTS helmet and head mounted display and maneuvered in the simulated environment to get a feel for what soldiers would experience during training. This includes a fully immersive environment with high fidelity graphics and technology that enables soldiers to virtually interact with their physical environment and use combat equipment. Soldiers use natural motions just as they would in a live environment to perform motion maneuvers, such as leaning around or under an obstacle.

U.S. soldiers also participated in demonstrations of DSTS and were enthusiastic about the training capabilities based on the fact that the system allows for a tactical training experience, enabling them to shoot, move and communicate as a cohesive squad instead of as individuals. Ultimately, through DSTS soldiers experience true tactical training while defending virtual fortresses or towns within the simulation, which offers them the unique opportunity to enhance team and squad tactics.

“The goal of Dismounted Soldier is to deliver the rigor and realism necessary to execute tough and demanding training in full spectrum combat – and, ultimately, to provide our deploying soldiers with the best available training to ensure they maintain the military advantage,” said Harry Martin, ID president and CEO. “We were truly honored to have U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta participate in a demonstration of the cutting-edge capabilities of the Dismounted Soldier Training System.”

ID is spearheading the development of the multi-million dollar DSTS with management of the training system being led by the Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation.

Fort Benning plays an integral part in training the U.S. Army and is the Maneuver Center of Excellence, teaching courses and training approximately 96,000 soldiers and leaders annually.
