Wauchula, Florida (PRWEB) May 17, 2012
Charity Navigator, the nation’s top charity evaluation system, has once again awarded the Center for Great Apes, a permanent sanctuary for chimpanzees and orangutans, the prestigious four-star rating for sound fiscal management, accountability and transparency. Only 25 percent of the charities reviewed by Charity Navigator receive the highest four star rating. The coveted rating came at a great time as the Center for Great Apes is currently raising funds to complete the construction of two new habitats to accommodate two recently rescued orangutans from Iowa. The cost of the two habitats is $230,000 with only $53,000 still needed to complete the project.
Patti Ragan, founder and director for the Center for Great Apes, said “We are really proud to have earned the four-star rating again. We are dedicated to providing the most enriching, safe and healthy sanctuary possible for the orangutans and chimpanzees we have rescued. It takes a determined team to do this from our board members and caregivers to our volunteers and donors. It is because of their support and the support of the members that we are able to protect these incredible apes.”
Charity Navigator rates nonprofit organizations to provide donors of all levels with reliable data about the impact, efficiency and fiscal health of charities. Charity Navigator analyzed the Center for Great Apes’ performance in seven financial metrics: program expenses, administrative expenses, fundraising expenses, fundraising efficiency, primary revenue growth, program expenses growth, and working capital ratio. It also evaluated the sanctuary in several accountability and transparency performance metrics, giving the Center for Great Apes an overall four-star rating. Ratings are provided so that givers can make intelligent giving decisions, and so that the philanthropic community can more effectively monitor itself.
