Barlow Robbins Team Runs for ‘Headway’

Barlow Robbins LLP has a leading specialist brain injury team dealing with such cases. Helen Goatley, who heads the team, says: “Brain injury is generally caused by anoxia (no oxygen) or hypoxia (reduced oxygen) at birth, during surgery or following trauma when the head is struck or moved violently, as in whiplash. It can have a wide range of effects, from physical problems such as uncoordinated movement to cognitive issues with concentration, remembering and speaking.’

“We have helped a number of people over the years and it has given us a unique insight into how to deal with brain injured clients. It is a very worrying time for the families, when someone is very ill indeed and our extensive training in the impacts of brain injury means we know how to deal with you and the difficulties you face. Seemingly small things like reminding you about appointments or listening patiently can make a huge difference.”

The firm’s specialist expertise has brought them into contact with Headway, the charity that works to improve lives after brain injury. This year three Barlow Robbins employees ran the London Marathon to support the charity. Samantha Simpson, Debbie Leeland and Jo Kemp took up the challenge and raised £2,500 for Guildford-based Headway Surrey.

Debbie said: “This was my second marathon, but I found the experience awe-inspiring and the support of family, friends and Headway along the route gave us such a boost.”

Jo said: "I was surprised at how much I enjoyed myself, particularly the feeling crossing the finish line. It feels even better knowing you have been able to raise money for a worthy cause.”
