During the summer months, UV (Ultraviolet) radiation from the sun is intensified, especially on lakes where it is reflected from the water, officials at iboats.com said. They say this can be especially damaging to boaters who are exposed to prolonged UV rays. The results are permanent and cannot be reversed.
According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, more than 1 million people are diagnosed with skin cancer, the leading form of cancer in the United States, every year. Exposure from the sun accounts for more than 90 percent of all types of skin cancer. In the early 1990’s research started to indicate the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and public awareness was increased.
