Based in Tokyo, 3rdKind provides a way for foreign companies to maximize sales of their games in Japan by providing marketing, localization, development and “culturization” support. By partnering with KDDI, 3rdKind further secures its strategic position in the Japanese market, making it ideally placed to introduce global content to the Japanese market. 3rdKind is able to provide key insights and opportunities for overseas companies looking to increase revenue in the lucrative Japanese market.
For KDDI the partnership with 3rdKind ensures that its "au Smart Pass" service is affluent with high quality games developed by companies from around the world.
Furthermore, the KDDI 3rdKind partnership aims to bring the best games for both new and seasoned smartphone users in order to provide the best environment for entertainment.
KDDI invests in promising startup companies in Japan and overseas with the goal of bringing new products or services through “KDDI ∞ Labo”, a startup incubation program currently inviting a second round of applications, and through the “KDDI Open Innovation Fund”.
Starting July 2nd, the partnership will release its first games, Japanese versions of “Cross Fingers” and “Panic Flight” on the KDDI au Smart Pass service. From there, one to two games are expected to be released every month.
With more than 20 million subscribers, KDDI is Japan’s second-largest mobile operator. Furthermore, together with its subsidiaries, KDDI is the only Japanese ICT solution company that provides comprehensive services for consumers and corporate clients.
