J. Hunter Eddins Gentel, a Workers’ Compensation attorney at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, recently graduated from the North Carolina Bar Association’s Leadership Academy.
The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) was founded in 1899 as a voluntary organization of lawyers, paralegals and law students dedicated to serving the public and legal profession. NCBA’s Leadership Academy was established in 2011 under then president Gene Pridgen to train lawyers and provide them with the skill sets to be effective leaders in their communities.
To be considered for the limited number of spots in the 2012 Leadership Academy, each attorney had to submit an application and:
- Be a member of the NCBA and its Young Lawyers Division;
- Have been admitted to practice law for between two and ten years; and
- Provide a letter of recommendation from another member of the NCBA who can vouch for the applicant’s aptitude and potential leadership.
Gentel was chosen as one of only 16 lawyers to participate in the 2012 Leadership Academy. The program took four months to complete and took place at the N.C. Bar Center in Cary, NC, the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC and at the N.C. Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in Asheville, NC.
“This has been a wonderful experience, and I’m proud to be a part of this unique opportunity,” Gentel said. “The Leadership Academy has opened my eyes and my heart as to how I can not only be a better attorney, but as to how I can be a better person and leader for my community.”
Gentel joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2009 as an attorney in the firm’s Workers’ Compensation department. She is a current member of the Susie Sharp Inn of Court, as well as the Wake County and North Carolina Bar associations.
In addition to being involved in professional organizations, Gentel is active in the community by serving on the Board of Directors at the Zebulon’s Boys & Girls Club.
