(Raleigh, N.C.) Vetted International, Ltd. has appointed a new regional program manager for East Asia to oversee the management of care for injuries and claims investigations in the East Asian corridor. This includes injuries and medical care covered under the Defense Base Act (DBA) and the investigation and management of foreign voluntary compensation claims. The areas in which Vetted now operates include: China (including Hong Kong), Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
Several American and international businesses have increased their operations in Asia due to a recession in America and Europe. While Europe and the United States have been experiencing a recession, the GDP of many countries in Asia has been increasing six to twelve percent and many American and international businesses are positioning themselves to capitalize on this growth. “The world is increasingly looking towards Asia and foreign business operations within Asia have been increasing exponentially in the past decade. Naturally, so have the claims. Furthermore, Americans and Asians work outside of their country of record and require medical care or evacuation to their home country,” added Brian Sjostedt, president and CEO of Vetted International. “It was only natural that we appoint a regional program manager to manage this growing region and we are excited by the possibility of this expansion,” he added.
In addition to burgeoning foreign business operations in Asia, numerous third country nationals assisting U.S. government contracts abroad are Asian and when they are injured assisting U.S. government operations, their care must be managed. They often must be repatriated and their medical care with further treatment must be managed and continued in their home country. Several U.S. contractors on military bases in Asia are injured and their care must be managed according to western standards.
Civilian contractors in support of United States strategies abroad are covered by a 1941 law titled the Defense Base Act (DBA). The DBA covers civilian contractors in a similar fashion as a traditional state worker's compensation policy; however, there are many challenges that are difficult to overcome without a physical presence in the areas in which losses occur. Vetted initially provided that presence throughout the world to act as liaisons to expedite claims handling. As those challenges became more evident, Vetted expanded its services to include medical management and treasury services.
Vetted International has maintained certification in their proficiency of those required AMA guidelines from the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME). Vetted International is recognized as the industry subject matter expert in DBA medical management and understands the complexities of evaluating impairment per American Medical Association (AMA) Guidelines.
