Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 30, 2012
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation(DVNF), a non-profit organization that exists to help to men and women who come home with emotional and physical wounds after serving the country, is seeking veterans’ input on their most pressing employment challenges. The information will be used by DVNF to formulate topics for an ongoing series of free employment webinars.
“The webinars we held earlier this year were very effective in reaching veterans and providing them with resume and job hunting tips that came directly from experts in job placement,” said Raegan Rivers, Chief Administrative Officer of the DVNF. “But we know there is a lot more we can do to provide veterans with the help and tools they need to find and secure meaningful employment. Before we move forward, we want to hear directly from our military men and women about the skills they need most in order to be successful in their job search.”
Veterans are asked to fill out a short online survey on the DVNF website to help the organization identify the greatest job and education needs. The survey questions cover a variety of employment related topics, including using social media effectively as a job hunting tool, addressing disabilities while looking for a job, and converting military experience into civilian job credentials.
Future webinars will be offered free online and will be open to veterans, active duty, reservists and retired members of the U.S. Military, and those supporting veterans, including Veteran Service Officers, spouses and family members. Future webinar dates and topics will be announced on the webinar page of the DVNF website.
Several hundred veterans from around the country attended the three webinars that the DVNF conducted earlier this year. The first webinar covered resume development and cover letter writing. The second event, “Hunting for a Job: How to Find a Job that Suits You,” discussed how to effectively seek the right job, including beginning the search, effective networking, how and when to use headhunters, writing letters, following up and more.
The DVNF enlisted three experts in the field of veteran job placement for the third webinar, on how to successfully interview for a job and secure an offer for employment.
The DVNF enlisted three experts in the field of Veteran job placement for the third webinar, where they discussed how to successfully interview, they were: Ted Daywalt, President of VetJobs.com; Jeff Klare, CEO of Hire Disability Solutions; and Diane Hudson Burns, a noted career management coach and co-author of “The New Senior Executive Service Application.”
“There are a number of military and employment experts who want to partner with us to help our military heroes find meaningful jobs when they return from active duty,” said Rivers. “We all understand that the challenges are especially great for the men and women who have suffered disabilities as a result of their selfless service to our country. We share a common goal to do whatever it takes to get them the information, resources and help they need to attain their dreams of long-term employment in jobs that match their desires and skills.”
