Acculynk’s drive to bring Internet PIN debit to Latin American debit centric markets gained a major boost this week with Acculynk winning Lion’s Den top honors at the ATPS Latinoamerica in Miami. Representatives from 32 airlines from 19 Latin American countries were in attendance.
Companies competing in the Lion’s Den were judged as to which company would bring the highest return on investment as measured by increased revenue or cost savings benefits. The judges recognized that broader issuance of debit cards over credit cards, both in Latin America and worldwide, means enabling these consumers to purchase online is crucial to supporting the rapid growth of travel and e-commerce. The majority of debit cards in Latin America require PIN authentication to be used. In addition, fraud is prevalent in Latin American markets making the extra security provided by two-factor authentication highly attractive.
"We currently have U.S.-based airlines drawing in Latin American consumers by accepting Puerto Rican-based ATH cards on their US site. Success stories like these help prove the promise of Internet PIN debit for the travel industry,” said Kelly Johnson, Director of National Sales, Acculynk. “Our story around bringing millions of PIN-only debit card holders to e-commerce through PaySecure, Acculynk’s online PIN pad, strongly resonated with the audience of payments specialists from several Latin American airlines.”
With PaySecure, online shoppers enter their PIN on a virtual PIN-pad pop-up during the checkout process on the merchant’s commerce site. PaySecure is designed to provide an extra layer of security for debit card transactions, helping reduce fraud and charge-backs for merchants, while offering opportunities for incremental volume.
Airline Information, a provider of commercial aviation management conferences and publishing, is host to the ATPS Latinoamerica Payments Conference & Profitability Summit. Based on the British television show “Dragons’ Den,” players that have developed payments products benefiting the airline and travel industry present to the panel of distinguished “Lions,” or judges. The Lions in turn give advice on how to develop and promote these products in the Latin American and Spanish market.
