Pro Auction will sell by auction the contents of the former News International site at Wapping. The 15-acre site, once home to the Sun, Sunday Times, NoW, and NI printing presses was bought by Berkeley Group's St George in May 2012. Property developer St George plans to turn News International's site in Wapping into shops, homes, offices and open spaces, some of the history of the site will be preserved for example the warehouse that at one stage housed the Sunday Times and parts of the Times is a listed building.
The auction sale finally brings the curtain down on 25 years of newspaper history at the site, christened "Fortress Wapping" after the 1980s union dispute.
Industrial auctioneers Pro Auction, who have orchestrated similar auctions on behalf of Briitsh Steel, Network Rail and Corus Group, are anticipating World Wide interest in the equipment which is being sold by a virtual auction on a bidding platform enabling bidders to participate in onsite auctions without leaving the office.
Equipment at the sale can be inspected on the 25th and 26th September between 10am and 3pm, where buyers can be assured that the plant has been regularly and well maintained by its former owners .
Some of the best manufacturer in Mechanical & Electrical is represented at the sale including boilers from Allen Ygnis, generators & power solutions from Perkins, Mitsubishi air conditioning , liquid coolers and refrigeration by York and cranes by Stahl. Additional to the industrial plant and machinery the IT suites are also being auctioned off with over 250 server cabinets open for bidding.
Mark Flynn, director of Pro Auction states “given the current global economy, auction sales of used plant and machinery have produced surprisingly good results, regardless of manufacturing output good quality used equipment is highly sought after, given the saving the buyer enjoys versus the cost and lead times of acquiring new “.
