On Thursday, November 15, the Florida Rural Health Association (FRHA) presented Dr. Udayashree Nune board-certified family practitioner of Quorum Health Resources (QHR) client hospital Hendry Regional Medical Center in Clewiston, Florida with the “2012 Rural Physician of the Year” at the FRHA Educational Summit event. This is the first time FRHA has named a physician of the year.

“Born and raised in a rural community, Dr. Nune is personally committed to providing quality care to our community,” said Lynn Beasley, CEO of Hendry Regional Medical Center. “We could not be more proud to have such a talented and compassionate physician at our hospital.”

Dr. Nune added, “I was thrilled and honored to be selected for such a distinguished award. Being named as FRHA’s ‘2012 Rural Physician of the Year’ has touched my heart and I am grateful to be appreciated by my patients, residents and colleagues.”

In addition to the service Dr. Nune provides to Hendry Regional’s community, she donates financial resources to a student in India and offers free medical care on annual mission trips in Nicaragua.

“It is an honor to have Dr. Nune’s level of extraordinary care at our client hospital,” said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “Her commitment to Hendry Regional’s community is remarkable and we are pleased to see her recognized for her contributions.”

Originally from a rural community in South India, Dr. Nune and her family relocated to Clewiston, Florida in 2007 to practice medicine at the Forbes Family Care Center. Dr. Nune’s two sons are currently attending medical school.

FRHA serves as an advocate for healthy rural communities and as a bridge between the National Rural Health Association and rural Florida. Nominations for the “2012 Rural Physician of the Year Award” included physicians from all rural hospitals, community health centers, and medical practices in Florida.
