On January 2, 2013, collections company Rapid Recovery Solution responded to a Go Banking Rates article by Stacey Bumpus, regarding New Jersey’s Consumer Credit Fairness Act.
According to the Go Banking Rates article, “Individuals who have been affected by debt collectors using unfair collection practices in the state of New Jersey may soon see these acts come to a halt, thanks to a bill that advanced earlier this month.” The bill the article mentions, is know as the Consumer Credit Fairness Act, and it is supposed to protect consumers from manipulative and abusive debt collectors.
According to the article, under this bill, no debt buyer will be able to file a suit without 30 days written notice of legal action, as well as collect a debt when the collection is barred by the statute of limitations.
The article states that, “The goal of the bill is to stop debt buyers from collecting debts through the use of unfair, false, misleading or deceptive practices.”
John Monderine, CEO of collections company Rapid Recovery Solution, responded with his thoughts of the new bill. “This bill is good step in the right direction. It is just one more action taken to limit the rogue collection agencies from illegally and unfairly collecting debts,” said Monderine. “Hopefully bills such as this can be implemented beyond New Jersey and into more states.”
