On January 2, fitness expert Lorna Kleidman responds to a recent article on staying motivated to exercise during winter; a time of year when people typically skip out on workout routines.

The article from The Times of India gave five tips to stay motivated during the winter. The first tip is to keep a photo of yourself handy from when you were in your best shape. This will keep you motivated to look better. You can also keep a photo of when you were in your worst shape.

Second, the article says to post updates on social networks in order to stay in touch with other people in your network who are also working out, this way you can provide support and keep each other motivated.

The third tip on the list is to find a workout buddy. This works similarly to the second tip, however it is more effective since you can actually work out together.

The next thing the article advises is to constantly change your workout regimen. “After a certain point, your body stops responding to a particular exercise. So keep changing your workout routines every 15 days or [maybe] every week,” the article stated.

Lastly, remember to count calories, especially during the holidays. When you eat more, you will be more motivated to burn off the fat and extra pounds you gained.

Lorna Kleidman, a fitness expert who specializes in kettlebell exercises, applauds the article. She added that while the summer may seem like a long time from now, the fact is that summer bodies are created in the wintertime. “If you wait until April or May to start working out for the summer, it might be too late for you to get into the peak physical shape you’re striving for by the time you put on a bathing suit,” she said. “Get a head start early in the year, this way you’ll have less to do in the spring.”

Kleidman added that it might be a good idea to buy a swimsuit during the winter and keep it visible, this way you’ll keep up your motivation to lose weight. By keeping your goals in mind, Kleidman advises, you’ll be far more motivated to work out during the cooler months.
