Electronics e-commerce leader Monoprice (Booth # 70311, Venetian Hotel Ballroom) continues to set the home audio world on its ear with its announcement of the launch of intriguing products, including a new Hi-Fi 5.1 home theater sound system, for its appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada (January 8-11, 2013.)

Now Monoprice is building on this success with the Hi-Fi 5.1 home sound system featuring an affordable $249 price tag. and stellar quality and performance found in more expensive home speaker systems.

Monoprice’s new 5.1 Hi-Fi Home Theater Satellite Speakers & Subwoofer ($249, Product ID# 9774) have a similar appearance to last year's model, but feature a more attractive, glossy finish and new aluminum dome tweeters. The audio system also has a powerful 200-watt subwoofer, which includes an 8-inch woofer.

This means that home audio enthusiasts faced with budget realities and even aesthetic concerns no longer have to compromise sound quality in choosing an affordable home theater audio system with Monoprice’s 5.1 Hi-Fi speakers.

“Our new 5.1 Hi-Fi home sound system raises the bar in quality for the price,” said Luke Grant, Monoprice’s Director of Marketing. “Our new product delivers the performance typical of speakers in the market priced in the $400 range.”

The core of Monoprice’s sound system is four satellite and the single center speakers that each use a 3" poly-titanium mid-range driver and a 3/4" Hyperbolic aluminum dome tweeter. These speakers can handle up to 100 watts of power and have an impedance of 8 ohms.
Adding to the unit’s overall performance, the satellite speakers handle frequencies from 115Hz to 20 KHz, while the center channel operates in frequencies in the 110Hz to 20 KHz range. The powered subwoofer features an 8" downward firing speaker with a Ribbed Elliptical Surround design driven by a 200 watt amplifier. The Ribbed Elliptical Surround design enables the speakers to produce higher volume levels with less distortion. It also handles frequencies from 33Hz to 20KHz and uses a variable crossover from 40-150Hz.

This system’s compact design makes it easy to mount anywhere with the satellite speakers measuring only 6.7" x 4.1" x 4.8" (HWD, including grill) and weighing under 3 lbs. each. They come with both keyhole and 1/4" threaded insert mounting options. The bass reflection port is conveniently located on the back of the speakers ensuring that optimal sound will occur when they are placed away from the wall.

The center channel speaker measures about 4.1" x 10.2" x 4.8" (HWD, including grill) and weighs 3.2 lbs. As with the satellite speakers, it contains both keyhole and 1/4" threaded insert mounting options. It also uses two forward firing bass reflection ports and can be mounted against (or within) a wall without any loss in sound quality.

The system’s subwoofer measures about 14.3" x 12.3" x 13.2" (HWD) and weighs approximately 20 lbs. It features four large rubber feet, which keep the downward firing driver off the floor. The subwoofer also has a forward firing port, with a small blue LED light at the top of the port to indicate that it is powered on. It includes both line and speaker level stereo inputs, so it can be used with any amplifier. A phase control switch located on its back allows you to adjust the phase of the subwoofer in relation to the rest of the system.

Noise-Canceling Headphones
Monoprice is also announcing at CES the upcoming launch of new Noise-Canceling Headphones w/ ANR Technology (Price range $100-$112, Product #ID 10010). These new headphones will be comparable in quality to competitors’ models retailing for around $350.
