Fresno, California (PRWEB) January 10, 2013
Aplos Software, LLC, an authorized IRS e-file provider, released this week their 2012 Form 990-N (e-Postcard) that can be e-filed with the IRS for free at http://www.aplossoftware.com. In addition, nonprofits may file a Form 990-N late for a prior year of 2011 or 2010 for $9.99 per return using Aplos e-File.
Form 990-N is an IRS annual informational return for tax-exempt organizations whose annual gross receipts are normally $50,000 or less. IRS Form 990-N must be electronically completed each year unless the nonprofit elects to file the longer Form 990 or Form 990-EZ instead.
The deadline for submitting Form 990-N is the 15th of the fifth month after the close of the organization’s tax year, so nonprofits that started a new fiscal year on January 1, 2013 are now eligible to submit their 2012 return and their 990 filing deadline is May 15, 2013.
A nonprofit is able to file Form 990-N late without a penalty from the IRS. If an organization fails to file the form three years in a row, the organization will automatically lose its tax-exempt status with the IRS. Visit http://www.irs.gov for more information about annual reporting requirements.
“We are proud to be a trusted partner with the IRS and are one of the only providers that will help organizations submit Form 990-N for a prior year, “ said Dan Kelly, co-founder of Aplos Software. “It is all part of our commitment to make managing a small nonprofit simple and easy.”
Organizations that do not need to file the IRS form include organizations that are included in a group return; churches and their auxiliaries, conventions or associations; and organizations that are required to file a different return.
Aplos e-File is available at no charge for the current year of 2012 at http://www.aplossoftware.com/products/efile. To complete the Form 990-N, the nonprofit will need to provide a valid email address, their employer identification number (also know as a taxpayer identification number), tax year, legal name, mailing address, any other names the organization uses, name and address of a principal officer, website address if the organization has one, confirmation that the organization’s annual gross receipts are less than $50,000 or less for tax years ending on or after December 31, 2010 and if applicable, a statement that the organization has terminated or is going out of business.
