Robert Lockwood’s A Dragon Defanged depicts the fictional presidential re-election campaign of Democrat Earl Eastwood, the United States’ first African-American president. He faces stiff competition from the Republican Sophia Kallias, and this heated race for the presidency is further complicated when the People’s Republic of China gives Eastwood an offer he can’t refuse.

Third world nations united by China court Eastwood with a “global presidency” in the United Nations if he loses the race to the White House. This irresistible temptation challenges his loyalties, and places him in a difficult position. He needs China’s endorsement for the presidency of the UN, and Chinese foreign investments have become the only viable source of job growth in a badly recessed US economy. Meanwhile, the Chinese recruit a Swiss financial wizard to help them launder funds from the Brazilian companies that they control. They use these companies to covertly capture Canadian and US shale oil and gas stakes, their pipeline conduits, as well as vital defense companies.

When Eastwood, a brilliant political tactician himself, learns of this duplicity, he must act forcefully to counteract the Chinese scheme. His rigid West Point ethics are challenged by his ambition and his complicated romantic life, but he must defend America from foreign subversion. Despite his acumen, however, he realizes that he cannot save the nation by himself, and only with the aid of unexpected allies can the United States stand a chance against the dragon that is China.

A Dragon Defanged is a gripping political thriller based on current geopolitical and economic issues affecting the United States. By sublimely weaving reality with superbly crafted fiction, Lockwood’s story will give readers an unforgettable glimpse of the secrets behind the White House’s closed doors.
